There are time limits to the online acces of bmd events in Scotland.

Births have a 100 year rule
Marriages have 75 years
Deaths 50 years.

Therefore if a marriage occured within the last 75 years then the record cannot be viewed online, an earlier one however can be found online via ScotlandsPeople.

Info about access and certificates for events within the last 50/75/100 years can be found at the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) website.

The index to recent marriages will be added to SP this year. The index to recent births and deaths was added last year. While you still cannot view the later certificates you can at least confirm events and order the certificates online. Might also be worth approaching the appropriate local Registrar, if known.

Scottish Registrars are now part of DIGROS (Digital Imaging of the Genealogical Records of Scotland’s people), each register office has access to digitised images of bmd events from 1855 to 2006, in theory this allows any office to locate any image regardless of whether the event took place within their district or not.

Easiest way to locate the register offices throughout Scotland is via the following link;

There are address, phone, e-mail and url contact details listed on a county basis.
