Thanks for the info, just after posting my computer and the landline phone went off/down and only came back on this am, and I had to restore computer to get it to work.

Christine The 1871 census is the one I think is right, the canal boats did go to Liverpool and Williams first daughter is also called Harriet, not that that means a lot. I couldn't make out where she was born, I did wonder if it was County somewhere possibly in Ireland.

Margaret, sandbach99 is me I corrected the Beech, but I'm not sure William is mine as I don't have a Mellor as Grandfather, but Rigby works is part of the same group as William was later at. As I typed this I wonder if Marlow/Marley and Mellor are the same name. Maybe she was Ann Mellor

I'll have a look for Ann Mellor

Thanks again for looking and I am sorry you thought I had ignored you.

sandbach99 Report 15 Jun 2008 20:31

My husbands Grandfather William Beech was born on 23 June 1868 per birth cert, parents James Beech and Ann Beech formerly Marlow.

On the Marriage cert of 24 Sept 1865 it shows James Beech aged 21 Bachelor son of John married Ann Marley 19 spinster daughter of George Marley, neither signed the register only made their mark.

All certs I have for the Beech family show them living at either Witton, Barnton or Marston in Northwich Cheshire. Just to complicate things they are all water/boat men, usually managing to miss the census.

There does not appear to be a death of Ann Beech between the wedding and the sons' birth, neither can I find any trace of Ann or George Marlow/ Marley in the Northwich areas
I have James Beech, possibly, on 1861 and 1871 censuses

Can anyone please help me, could the surnames Marlow/ Marley be wrong, can anyone find a trace of them on 1871,1881 0r 1891

Thanks for any help Vera
