trying to find who owned it in 1841 & what it was used for census is no help my ancester was a coachman but was he the coachman to the household or just lodging? by 1851 he is coachman to John Gordon at Cluny Castle it would be nice if John Gordon owned Waren House. any advice would be welcome. It looks as if it was a private residence owned by Philip Nain a merchant. He has a wife and four children.

Other occupants include two ladies of independant means, a coachman (your ancestor) a footman, a cook, a housemaid, a dairymaid and two nursery maids.

Hi Sue thanks how did you decide Philip Nairn was head it only shows occupation on 1841?. if your right then my ancester was working for Mr Nairn

He must have been the head to have had the means to employ the staff including the two nursery maids for his children.

Ok i'll go allong with that as a theory & see what i can find out, having looked at it again i think the name might be Wain what do you think.

I think it should be Nairn. There are births on Freebmd under that name for two of the children on the census, Maria and Caroline in Belford registration district.
