Well done Margaret - I abandoned the search yesterday after finding nothing on the family search site.

Carol, Pauline may be one of the four other people on this site who have Leonard Train in their tree (Julie, Maureen, Michael and Pauline).

Go to the "search trees" button near the top of this page to find their names - you can contact them by clicking on their name.

1891 Wales census mistranscribed
Leonard Frain 1852 United States
Alice wife 1854 Poplar Middlesex

address 24 Potter St Newport Mons.

You need to buy Leonard Trains marriage cert which hopefully will have a fathers name

Or contact Pauline Lewis59 who added the correction on Ancestry on the 1901 census. Her grandmother is Alice Train born c1892

I came across this when I googled his name:

leonard TRAIN

Country: USA
State: portland
Date Submitted: June 18, 2006

Notes:
the above man, born 1853, married an alice ward, born 1855, in cardiff, wales, in 1878. they were my great-grandparents. their daughter, my grandmother, was born in newport, monmouthshire, wales, in 1892. i cannot find out where he was born and no nothing about him, except that he was a seaman.

Database #: 41891
Submitter Email:

Could it be the same man?
I couldn't find anything about him on Familysearch, not on US 1880 census either.

My great grandfather Leonard Train was born in 1853 and is shown on 1901 census as being a seaman born in Portland U.S.A. he married my great grandmother in the late 1890's, and stayed in the U.K, but I cannot find out how to trace him, there is more than one Portland in the U.S. and all I know is his birth year, anybody have any ideas. Thanks Carol
