Hi again mgnv,

Well it looks to me like everything on Family Search must be checked out properly if you want to make sure they are correct.

I didn't know about clicking on these various things, I just thought you clicked on the number thats all, very useful information, thank you.

Re your query: where do these extracted records come from?

By way of example, lets look up the 1816 christening of Charlotte Bronte. Entering the name and date gets a mess of births, and two christenings. Here the submitted one is accurate, and more informative than the extracted one. When you click on the extracted record, there's a source number link "0990544" at the bottom - click on this, and we see that this record came from the Bishops' Transcripts for the Chapelry of Thornton, near Bradford. Click on the link here, and we get to see a bit more info - click on the "view film notes" button. This usually has info about the coverage of the register, as well as an LDS film number, in case you decide to rent the film and view it at the LDS FHC.

Hello Barry and Peter,

Barry I am fine thank you, trust you are ok too.

Sorry i went offline for a while but thank you both for your replies re IGI's submitted and extracted. I am going to read all this info a few times to take it all in but I do like Family Search IGI for older records however it hasn't help me much with finding my grandmothers family in Ireland but I will just keep trying, thats all you can do isn't it.
Best wishes to you both appreciate your help and information, this may all help other people as well.

Some members seem to assume that submitted entries can't be trusted, and dismiss them without a further glance.

Many can, and have been meticulously researched by the submitter. The difficulty is that we have no way of knowing which ones are likely to be accurate Don't dismiss them out of hand, but like everything in this hobby, try to find some additional evidence to corroborate the details.

The pedigree and ancestry trees on the IGI are different again. They are simply submissions of someones tree. Again, no better or worse that the trees you find on GR, Ancestry or anywhere else for that matter. If anything, these records probably require slightly more caution.

Hello Sam,

Thanks for the information on submitted and extraced records, I understand now. So if anyone puts records on Family Search then as you say they may not be correct? I didn't know just anyone could do that and add names and births/marriages/deaths to family search!!

Submitted entries can be submitted by any person researching their family tree, the entries are not verified or checked before they are included on the IGI so many are inaccurate.

Extracted ones have been transcribed directly from the parish records so although you will always get some errors in transcriptions, they are far more accurate than submitted entries.

What exactly is the difference from submitted and extracted records on Family Search.
Who submitted them for example?
Who extracts them and from where do they extract these records??

Sorry for the question but I just want to get it exactly correct!!

Thanks in advance for you information and help!
