I have been searching for the death of an ancestor of mine born 1871 whose wife was shown as a widow on the 1901 census. His last child was born 1898 and so I think he may have died between 1897 and 1901. I have searched Free BMD and ancestry but have not been able to find a record of his death and so I was wondering whether he may have served in the Boar War and died abroad. If someone could advise me where I could search for Boar War records it would be very much appreciated.

There isn't (as far as I know) one definitive site which lists all participants of the 2nd Boer War.

Some are listed on Kevin Asplin's wonderful site (you can Google for it). Yet others may be listed elsewhere.

Without knowing a particular regiment for your man it will be more difficult to track down (not impossible though!!!!).

All the records for this period of time are held at Kew - and they are alphabetical!

Good luck.

Thanks very much for your advice, I will check out Kevin Asplin's site and Kew to see what I can find.
Thanks again.
