I had one from GR about my g.grandfather who fought in both wars and survived, they said they had found his war records and that he fell in france. Interesting my mum would be pleased, if true she wouldn't be here and neither would I.

I ignore all of those type of messages from GR as I only have the Scottish side of my tree on site so usually their so called matches for my relatives are total rubbish.

The only one that might have been a match was for one rellie that died in WW1 and there is not a match on Ancestry for his service record or medal card so ignored that one as well.

Oh, I think I had one of those "Was Frederick Rothwell a veteran hero?" messages - I'm pretty sure the one in my tree was a farmer!

Whatever you do.........don't buy GR credits.

There are better.....and usually cheaper..........ways of researching.

I had one saying '...was Mary Unknown a Victorian Bride'! I never take any notice of these messages.

I got a similar one this morning supposidly about one of my relatives, who didn't die in the war. I think i am going to ignore it.

You can check the Commonwealth War Graves site for free to see if William Swallow fought and died for his country.

Hi I just got this message from Genes
Did William Swallow fight and die for his country? Pay £5.00 for credits
They give me 8 possibles, Do you think i should give it a go? My subs for ancestry just ran out at the weekend was not going to renew until July.
Anyone else had a success from the Genes match (hope it's better than the "Hotmatches")
Thanks Pamx

btw.. i have 5 William Swallows in my tree up to now
