I have managed to find my G grandfathers details on the Death records and now have his army rank, no.

Who do I contact to gain more information on his army career or for any information about him.

He died before my grandma was born and she is 90 this year and would like to know more about him.

Any help would be appreciated

Ancestry.co .uk have Service Records from ww1 on their site,,but subscription is needed to view them,,not all records did survive as caution,,but there could be a card--Medal Card as to what Medals he was awarded,

do you have his service numberand name ,

I thought I had the service number, the year of death was correct. It came up as a match in an email this morning. Just read back on posts on this site and it seems most people got matches.

just searched on CWGC records and it cant be the one as it shows the match as buried in france, and I know he died at Nell Lane millitary hospital in manchester, so wont be buried in France.

On the search on CWGC I have tried to locate him on the cemertaries list in Manchester but cant find a F Lees

The only information I have on him is his name Francis Lees and he died before September 1918 (when my grandma was born).

He was unable to marry my G grandmother as when he returned he died of his wounds.

As grandma was illegitimate she was brought up by friends of the family, but was reunited with her mother in later years.

Never mind the search continues I would really like to find the information for her 90th birthday, she has one photo of him in an army photo but would like to know more about him
