Thanks Linda.
I know the local office on Teesvalley indexes covers Middlesbrough,Stockton,Hartlepool. They also direct you to Darlington office which is where I thought the death would be registered. However they dont seem to have deaths online for that time.

Im trying to find it on Ancestry full index so need theGRO no. It will also be registered I think either Teesside or Cleveland.
Thats why Im hoping for local knowledge for that time

Im doing this for someone else who isnt sure of the persons date of birth. She only knows the person was at a wedding in 1968. Its possible she could have died anytime onwards.

I don't know the area at all...sorry.

Having googled Newton Aycliffe.... from Wiki it seems to come under Sedgefield, Durham.

I don't know if this helps...

Newton Aycliffe would have come under Darlington which is in Durham.
The river Tees divided Yorkshire and Durham .However in 1969? new boundary changes had parts of Yorkshire and Durham come under Teesside

Then in 1974 in became Cleveland but not sure if it covered the same boundary area as the 1869 change

My sons birth in Middlesbrough 1971 was Teesside

So what was Newton Aycliffe registered under with all these boundary changes?
Has to be either Teesside or Cleveland dont you think?

The parish council is Sedgefield, so I assume it will be in Sedgefield registration district.
This changed in 1971

DURHAM SOUTH EASTERN REGISTRATION DISTRICT

Registration County : Durham.
Created : 1.7.1938 (out of Stockton, Hartlepool, Sedgefield, Auckland and Easington districts).
Abolished : 1.10.1971 (succeeded by Durham Central & South Eastern district).
Sub-districts : Billingham; Billingham & Hartlepool; Sedgefield; Stockton; Stockton First; Stockton Second
GRO volumes : 10a (1938-46); 1A (1946-71).

so it became

DURHAM CENTRAL & SOUTH EASTERN REGISTRATION DISTRICT

Registration County : Durham.
Created : 1.10.1971 (out of Durham Central and Durham South Eastern districts).
Sub-districts : Durham; Sedgefield.
GRO volumes : 1A (1971-74)

Thank you Linda.
I will look for Durham Central and South East

It was much easier when it was plain Durham
