Can anyone help me please?! I am trying to find out where a Thomas Mackney was born. I have been told he was probably born in Southern Ireland although we are not entirely sure. If not, he could have been born in Essex. I don't even have an exact birth year ! - I am guessing around 1810 as he had a son born in 1828 Can anyone tell me where I should start?!?

Was Thomas still alive in 1851?

If so, the census might give his birthplace.

No, unfortunately he had died by the time his son got married in 1847. Thanks for suggesting it though.

There is this submitted entry on familysearch.

Thomas Mc Kennay
Birth: About 1800 Of Latenstone, , Essex,
Father: Richard Mc Kennay
Mother: Charlotte Holdend

Is this the right area?
What was his wife's name?

Have you found Thomas' death registration?

It won't give an age at death but the actual certificate should.
At least that might give a starting point.

Thank you - it's a possibility - his son was born in the Woodford Bridge area of Essex. I don't know his wife's name.
