The numbers Jeanette has quoted are the ref number for the events, you could get all three certs and a couple of census images with 30 credits.

With the above info you will be able to avoid trawling through possibles as there will only be one match with the ref numbers.

1902 MILLER JAMES BLACKNEY SARAH ASHCROFT GOVAN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 646/02 0028

1881 BLACKNEY SARAH ASHCROFT F GOVAN AND GOVAN CHURCH GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 646/01 1539

It will be cheaper for you to buy credits and download as each cert will cost 10 pounds from GRO

The marriage cert would give you the names of the parents, birth certs from 1861 to present also give date of parents marriage.

The certs will be available to download from the site.

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

There are also census (1841-1901) and pre 1855 parish records too.

Thanks Jeanette, didn't realise you could download actual certs.

Is it cheaper that applying to GRO direct.

Not sure, but if you search on Scotlandspeople site you may be able to find what you are looking for.

You can also download actual certs

births 1855 -1907
marriages 1855 -1932
deaths 1855 - 1957

30 credits are 6 pounds
5 credits for 1 certificate

Depends on the dates you are looking at but ScotlandsPeople allows you to download extracts (equivalent to certs) directly from the register for bmd and gives the refs for later events.

To search SP is free but you need credits to view results/download the images.

30 credits=£6
View results =1 credit
Census/bmd extract=5 credits.

Cheaper than English certs and they have more info.

What years are you looking at?

This is a first for me so wondered if anyone could advise. When applying to Scotland GRO for certificates,do you have to have a reference as when applying to Southport, and if so, where will I find this reference.

Many thanks

Linda
