Remember there is a distinction between entries in the indexes and actual registrations. The birth will appear in the indexes under any names in use at the time of the birth, (so possibly 2 in March depending on Mums circumstances) and then if the birth was re-registered to add the Dad to the registration in December because he was not present fopr whatever reason in March, that would produce the third entry.

If the parents were not married at the time of his birth it is possible that he is registered under his mother's maiden name and also his father's surname.

However if he is registered under the SAME name twice, then I'm not sure as to the reason.

Hi I was wondering if anyone could shed some light.
I was messing about with my nephew and we looked up his birth record-he was born in 1999 so it was the recent records. We then put in my daughter's father's name, who was born in 1984, and it came up that he had been registered in that year 3 times. He was born in the feb but was registered twice in march and once in december. I know it was definitely him as first, middle and surname were all the same and he has a very unusual surname. It's also weird as it says he was born in March as well as registered. He told me before that he has never seen his birth certificate and I know he has never met his dad but his mum is very cagey about his dad. He is not interested about knowing his dad as he believed he deserted him.
Anyway, was just wondering why someone would show up more than once. Thank you
