Hi all, I have found the Free BMD database to be a brilliant asset, but although it's supposed to go up to 1983 there don't seem to be any records for the late 1920s onwards.

I am trying to find various details for family members on events that would have happened between the 20s and 80s, where can I look? I know there are the full BMD indexes but as I don't know exactly when all these events took place it would involve painstaking research through every page with the appropriate surname over several years. Is there an easier way?

Partial FreeBMD Indexes & Images 1837-1983

Ancestry might claim up to 1983 but their information is supplied by FreeBMD as far as I am aware

FreeBMD Indexes are not transcribed up to 1983. It seems that most are completed prior to 1910. From 1910-1929 are partially complete but it is an ongoing process and is still being worked on by volunteer transcribers. If you check here http://www.freebmd.org.uk/progressB.shtml you can check on what are/are not completed.

Re Ancestry records - for all the records up to 1983 you have to scroll through the pages (images) to find the person you are looking for. There is a separate section for after 1983 - these records are transcribed similar to FreeBMD where the name you are searching for will show. There are no images with these records but all the information is there for each individual record.

That's what I thought, I was just hoping there might have been an easer way!
