Hello,

I am trying to find the birth of Bartholomew Cain, who married in 1920 to Rose Hefferon. Bartholomew at the time of marriage was 29 years old and married in Prescot, Lancashire. He died in 1961 and the age on his gravestone is 74.

Any help/suggestions gratefully appreciated.

On the Record of marriage it says Bartholomew J Cain. What does the J stand for? Could it be a surname he was born with?

I do have the marriage certificate (but not to hand) and from memory I think it is Michael Cain but not 100% sure. Bartholomew's occupation on the marriage certificate was a Yard Labourer at Electric Cable Works.

Bartholomew's full name was Bartholomew John Cain. Am not sure if the Bartholomew in the 1901 census shown is the right one though.

Could he have been born in Ireland? A good few of the Cain's seem to be.

Hi,

That looks like him - especially as most of the family lived in St Helens.

Any ideas how to trace his birth seeing as he was born in Ireland?
