Bother, the list gives name variants and the one for 1955 is
6 Jul 1955 Edwin John BRIAN 64 Essex Harwich, St Nicholas

obviously not him, the majority of the list are Bryants.
There isn't one for 1946 because unfortunately the church you need is not transcribed

I am only assuming he was buried at that church because his wife was but don't know for definate, would you have the details of the burial in 1955.

Thank you

That church isn't on the list, there are a lot of Bryant burials in Essex including some later years, but the only 1955 is not your church

they are buried in St Nicholas church Laindon Basildon but at the moment we are having problems finding the grave because its quite neglected there and all the grave numbers have been taken off by vandals so although I have the grave number we havent found it yet but the church warden has someone who is trying to sort it out.

I have found him now thank you, died 1955. It didnt come up when I put his name in the search engine but I tried the death index and it came up, admittedly a year later than I thought but I had tried in the general search up to 1957.

I wondered if anyone had any problems with finding a death record for anyone with the surname Bryant as there seems to be a gap in records. I know that my great grandfather died 1953/1954 in Essex but cannot find his death on Ancestry or Free BMD and need to confirm it so I can find his burial which I believe was with his wife (who died in 1946) in the local churchyard but need the date to confirm.
