Woww Chrisc,

I just thought - what a simple idea - I will go and try that..

BUT.... It is an image from the Army Pension Records and when I right clicked on it all I got was 'properties>>> drat !!

Not to worry I will try moving the virtual folder to desktop when grand-daughter has gone home.

I will get there.

Many thanks,

Dea x

Well Glen - Many thanks but it doesn't work that way for me I am afraid! I DO select the folder I want from 'my documents' but it just puts them in the other place.

I will try Babs' and Bernard's suggestions this evening when my 3-year old grand-daughter goes home and I am able to pay attention to the computer rather than her (she's lovely really!!)

If I can move that 'virtual' folder onto my desktop at least I will know where things are without all the fiddling.

Many thanks all,

Dea x

I have folders for the different types of image i'm saving (census, military, phone book listing etc), when i choose the "save to my computer" option on ancestry i just select the relevant folder from "my documents" and it saves it directly to the selected folder .

Just the same as i used to with XP.

Make folder on desktop to put them in, Highlight what you want to save, press Ctrl and C keys, then minimize your page, double click on your folder, when folder opens, press Ctrl and V keys and it will drop into your folder.

Dea have you got a folder already made on your desktop ??? fi not try making one and moving the other virtual folder into there and then maybe when you save next one it might go there automaticly ;;;can but try wont hurt out ;;

Well, I REALLY don't know what to say Babs,

I have just tried what you said and they have gone off into the 'virtual' again !

I am a 'lost cause' !!

P.S. - Don't worry - can find them 'the long way around' now so at least I can move them to where I want... eventually!

The trouble is Gordon that with Vista you do not get a choice as to where it is originally saved it just puts it in a special 'virtualised' place in the temporary internet files!!!

Anyway - neither of those suggestions above worked for me, but with a bit ( a LOT) of 'fiddling and a combination of the two suggestions I have managed to put 1 image where I want it !!! THANK YOU !

Anyway, had enough for now - I will do another one later and write myself some instructions as to how I did it so that next time I want to do it I will be able to follow them step by step!

Many thanks all,

What I do is tick save to my computer then choose desktop as the place to save. I can then decide to make a folder and or put it where I want.

Thank you SSSoooo much Chrisa and Stacey !!!!!!

Sorry, I have only just seen your messages - I totally gave up on it yesterday!

I will print your instructions off and have a little practice when I am properly awake !

I really do dislike this system - I am not a computer expert but could always work things out using XP without much difficulty but Vista does not seem to follow and 'logic'

Many thanks for your help.

Another way which i do it, is

when the save box open where you can change the name etc,
on the left should be a list of folders you have computer, documents etc.
Just click on a folder you want it saved to, pictures

You can drag your own folder in there so its easier to find and then it will save to that folder.

Hope its easy to understand

Hi Dea

I had the same trouble with mine it took me ages to find them lol.

Next time you save an image on Ancestry to you computer when it says saved to temp internet folder & asks if you want to open folder now clidk on YES.

You then have to double click (on mine its C) (FILE FOLDER)

Then double click on Users

Then double click on your nameor whoevers username you're on.

Then double click on Documents & thats where all your images should be.

I then click & drag the image to move it into my documents.

Hope I've explained it clearly for you.

Hi,

I still can't master this new Vista (Very Irritating System Totally Annoying !!!!!!!!!! - MY opinion!)

When I try to save an image from Ancestry - It puts it into a temporary internet file and doesn't tell me where it has 'hidden' it!!

How do I get it to JUST SAVE IT in the ordinary way so I can find it again and open it, e-mail it, even just SEE it somewhere??

Totally frustrated!!!
