If you know where they were living when the child was born, you could try looking for baptisms. It may be difficult if the child had a very common Christian name, though.

Where did you get the father's name from? The child's marriage cert? If so, bear in mind that some people invented a father's name to put on the marriage cert, so it looked more respectable.

Is there no-one you can ask for possible mothers names? Because the child probably had its mothers name.

Start with getting the birth cert of the child...
Certs cost £7.

well unless his name was on the birth cert then the baby would be registered in the mums name .

I need to find a "possible" illegitimate child, I have the Fathers name but no mothers name, I know it it like finding a needle in a haystack but could someone please advise me on where to start, the Father has recently died so I would have to check dates of his whole life, I have very little information, where should I start.
