Abbreviation "R.S.D." on Lancs Birth Certificates?

Paul Report 8 Jul 2008 19:05

I have two birth certificates for sisters born in 1880/82 in the Knott Lanes sub-district of Ashton under Lyne. The father's address is given as St. John's Terrace, Cross Bank, but in the "when & where born" column, the address is given as St. John's Terrace, R.S.D.

Can anyone help with what this might stand for?

Thanks,

Paul
