Thank you to all of you, I don't think I'm going to have much luck.

Mary....... I hadn't thought about a burial, I suppose I could try the cemeteries around St Helens (where they lived at the time).

Thanks again to all

Hi Christel, yes there should be.

My great grandparents had stillborn daughter twins in 1922 in Woolwich. Both were registered for birth and death.

I believe a stillbirth certificate had to be produced to the cemetery so the child could be buried, even before 1927.

The register of stillbirths started in 1927 when it became law to register such a birth, before that time unfortunately it did not have to be recorded.

I am one of twins and my sister was sadly stillborn. There is nothing on my birth certificate to indicate a twin was born and that was in the 1960s. I understand if both twins are born alive the time of the individual birth is recorded on the birth certificate but that does not happen if one baby is stillborn as only the death of the deceased one is recorded on the register of stillbirths. Information regarding the register and who can access it is given on:

The Stillbirths Register wasnt introduced till later so there wont be any records form that time sadly,,

Although I do belive an attending licensed midwife had to record it,.as most from that time were home births,,,

My Grandmother (passed long ago) always said that she had two sets of twins, but in each case one of the twins died. I have the birth certificates of what would have been the 'surviving' twin in each case, but there is nothing on them to suggest that they were one of twins.

Were still born babies recorded anywhere? I'm looking between 1912 and 1926.

Many thanks to anyone who can help.
