Do you mean before 1930 or after? If you search the National Archives catalogue by putting the surname in, and J77 as the reference to search, it may be listed.

Hi Ange M and Ann
Thanks for helping. I know my grandmother left when my uncle was few months old, he was born in Nov 1930, my grandfather remarried in 1939 so the divorce was somewhere in between, he filed for the divorce according to his 2nd marriage cert.
Thanks again will give NA catalogue - fingerscrossed - this lady is giving me a headache - it's my dad's mum, he's 80 now and would like me to try and find out some info before it's too late. Can't even find her birth and it's looking like who she said was her dad probably wasn't - families eh!!!!!

Ann, sorry it was a typing error 2 x 1930! Have been onto NA using J77 no joy unfortunately, do you by any chance know if this is a complete list or partial?
Thanks

These are not available for the public to search. The search has to be done by the Courts Service.

HMCS (Her Majesty's Court Service)
Principle Registry of the Family Division
Decree Absolute Searches
R 2.03
First Avenue House
42-49 High Holborn
London
WC1V 6NP

Tel 020 7947 7016 or 7017

I think the search costs is £40 for each 10year period (yes expensive). If I remember correctly for an extra £1 you can get the Decree Nisi which will give you details i.e. why abandonment, adultery (it may even name names!) etc. The certificate doesn't contain much info other than the names of the two parties concerned the date of the marriage and location and the date the marriage ended - very official. If you're after the nitty gritty then this won't help you

I've found them helpful both on the phone and in person. If you do visit they'll only search two years while you wait. Give them a call.
