My G Grandfathers occupation is listed as 'Marine Engineer 0 10/3' .. the last 3 digits are shown as 10 over 3 fraction style. Can anybody tell me what these figures refer to if anything ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Melonie

Where did you get this information from?
Could the numbers 10 actually be letters?
The first O could mean Officer.

Have you got any other information to go on?

Good luck

Sorry I'm newish and didn't post enough information so here goes ...

1901 Census
Richard Burns
Margaret Burns .. wife
Elizabeth .. Daur
Percy .. Son
Elsie Maud .. Daur
Fleetwood, Lancashire

It is definately numbers after the occupation and for once the handwriting is very neat ! It does look like they are relating to the occupation.

Thanks

Melanie

I was in the Merchant Navy (many moons ago) as a Marine Engineer and think this method of numbers could be his rank, ie; 3rd Engineering Officer (as I was) out of 10 Engineers in all.

Hope this makes sense and helps
