.....There is a Govt.Dept in Melbourne (actual name escapes me) -which helps those officially adopted with tracing their families/ mother etc. ...I helped someone else last year but can only remember his lst name -'Brendan'. -Once he has proof of your identity (birth cert) - he will check ALL Govt records/files etc. .............The 'Victoria State Library' (on-line) has an 'Ask Us' service -they will help check electoral rolls - and I think they can help direct you to the Govt Dept I've just mentioned. .......... thankyou for your replies Mary. The lady concerned does not know. All she has been told is that she had been "adopted very quickly" directly from Melbournes womans hospital. She was also told that she had older siblings. Her adoptive parents are now dead so no more information can be obtained .

Was she adopted through an organisation? The Salvation Army are usually very helpful if they were involved.

The ones online only go up to 1936.

The "Ask a Librarian" service may check later ones for you - not sure whether they're covered by privacy rules.

I have a collegue whom was adopted in Melbourne Australia in the 1960's and whom has come up with a huge blank in regards to her mother. She has both of her birth certs. She has ben told by a "spiritual Guide' that her mother lied about her name.
Do Australian electrol rolls go back to the 1960's and would anyone have access to them for a look up to see if this womans name comes up.

I will look at Jean Allans thread when I can find it but would appriciate any feed back in the mean time.
