Usually a death cert for a child would say under the occupation heading "son/daughter of........." (name of father, or mother if illegitimate) is then entered.

The maiden name of a mother does not appear on the cert.

Thanks Von,,,like most things then, it was down to the discretion of the registrar........ a lot of my death certs don`t give the "description" of the informant, just name and sometimes an address. I`m just clutching at straws really, trying to find out maiden name of my gr gr gr grandmother, but only one child born after 1837 and he wasn`t registered, theres nothing on the IGI for any of them, just wondering about MMN being on death certs, as the youngest died age 14.......

thanks for your input.

Does anyone know, does a childs death cert. hold any different information to that of an adult? eg mothers maiden name or anything...
