You're welcome. As often is the case, more information led to more questions, ie who was his uncle? ... :-)

An example for you - from the records office at Ipswich:
According to the Settlement Examination Mary Packard, residing in Little Glemham, widow, and relict of Joseph Packard, late of the same place. 13 November 1817: her husband was brought up by an uncle of his from his childhood; and in the year 1783 he put her husband into a small farm at Little Glemham (she then being married to him) that he, the uncle, had purchased, living there for a year and an half. Then he went into another small farm belonging to the same uncle, where they stayed for three years. Then they lived in a cottage in Little Glemham (property of the same uncle) that had 3 acres of ploughed and 5 acres of meadow land, until Joseph's death in 1815; and she continued there ever since.

This was found for me by a cousin in Suffolk.

What info would the Settlement Records give me?

Do all RO's hold them?

Would I have to order them prior to my visit?

thanks
Kim
