My Father in-law passed away this year, all my husband and his family know of his childhood is the following.
Birth And Baptismal Cert
Kildare Leighlin Parish of Carbury
James Shortall born 25th August 1926
Baptized acc to rites of Catholic Church 5th Sept 1926
Church of The Holy Trinity. Carbury.
Parents
Bernard Shortall & Mary ( Coanor ? )
Sponsors Michael Baker & Elizabeth ( Kerryan ? )

All we know is his parents may of been killed in a car crash
and James was put in a childrens home possibly with brothers and sisters.

If anybody can tell us where to start looking we would be greatful.

Thankyou

Jane

I put this line (Kildare Leighlin Parish of Carbury) into Google and ended up here:

The civil registration page suggests that his birth should have been registered, from which you should also be able to find out his father's occupation. It looks as if the GRO Dublin would hold the records - I'll see if I can nudge some threads on research in Ireland.
