Maggie,

If the brother kept his birth name, a 1984 to 2005 death ,,then a marriage search would be a first step for me but death would probally need to be repeated backwards if a marriage didnt turn up,then again he may never have married?

,and hopfully its not a too common name,

Yes,1837 changed to .findmypast,

if you want any help with the trawl just send me a pm,,as there are alot of years to search ,!!

Sheila/Kay,

Thanks for replies.

As far as we know, friend kept the christian names he was given, only his surname was changed. Brother, as far as we know, was kept at home with original name - don't know why older son was kept and younger one adopted out.

Thanks for SS suggestion.

Have looked for birth brother on this site without success, but will suggest he starts tree with birth mother on it - thanks.

Had thought of looking for birth brother's marriage/death - hadn't thought of brother being abroad...

Any suggestions as to which is best route to seek marriage/death - isn't 1837 online now findmypast?

County in question is Dorset.

Thanks,

Maggie

Maggie,

There is the possibiltiy the older brother elected to have his electoral details kept from being published,?

Also he could be exdirectory?,

May not live in the area you expect to find him,?

May still be alive and living in residential care which then he wont show up

He may not live in this country?

Just a few reasons why hes not materializsing,,,,,,,,

Can you find in in past electorals?or looked to find him passing away,?

Ho Maggie,

If he was adopted then his surname and possibly his first name may have changed.
He could contact SS in this area to see if they can tell him which agency arranged the adoption.
Also try putting his BM in his tree to see if his brother joins this site , then she will come up in his hot matches.
The bad news is given his age, if he has passed on , then I doubt if the adoption agency will be able to take if further.
Wish him luck in his search.

Sheila

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction...

Have a friend, born 1931, who knows he was adopted.

He has his birth certificate which shows his birth mother's maiden name/address (father unknown). He also has the name of his older birth brother. The brother is not listed at www.bt.com/www.192.com for the birth county.

He would love to find out more about birth brother (accepting that he may not be alive, and also the need to tread carefully in case the brother doen't know about him).

All advice for how to go about finding out more welcome.

Thanks,

Maggie
