How do you know he was born in Woodchester? are you just going by a census entry?

Have you tried Nailsworth, Amberley, Registration would have been in stroud post 1837 but not sure for 18th century.

Where are you looking for his birth? You need to be searching at the glos Record office, don't think you will find anything on line.

It's a first name Gwyn

JACOB MARLING

I had found a few JAMES Marling and did wonder if that was a variation.

Thank you Devon Dweller.

I just can't find him linked to any family in Stroud, Uley (his son George was christened here), Kings Stanley area.
It would be so helpful to have a birth date.

Is that a first name or surname?

I believe Joab is a name in it's own right, ...Biblical?

Is there anything to be found to help here........?

Would anyone know variations of the name JACOB.

My Jacob has been known through the census as JOAB.

I've traced him to being married in St Helena, South Atlantic, but cannot find his birth about 1792/3 Woodchester, Gloucester.

With the help of a map, I've looked through all local towns and villages on Hugh Wallis Site.
He may have been christened under a different name.

So any ideas on name variations would be gladly accepted
