I've been thinking of scrapping my GR tree & using Lost Cousins for matches

Hi Gerri,

I removed my partial tree last month due to the impossible "Hot Matches" that kept appearing,

This however seemed to upset some of the regulars who feel Hot Matches are the best thing since sliced bread.
Personally I would rather have whatever came before sliced bread than any more Hot Matches.
That said I have nothing but praise for the contributions that appear here every day ,which of course allows us lesser mortals to build up our own search capabilities!

One of my relatives matched with a question mark!

On a positive note ...

I've been contacted or made contact with quite a few proper matches, although most are not, I can't resist going through them all, just in case.

I have a tip for very common names though ...

I have Jones's in my tree and have changed their forenames like this:

JJohn Jones

Otherwise I would get pages and pages of them.

I've had a lot of this type of "match", and have been unable to figure it out!!

HOWEVER ....... I got one over the weekend for my maternal grandfather and great grandfather. Contacted the person, and it turns out we are cousins!! Her ggrandfather was brother to my ggrandfather.

So far we are the only ones of this generation that either of us has found.

She was the only child, her family lost contact with her maternal family, and I am now the only surviving grandchild (of 2) in my line.

Refering back to Staffordshire Col's question mark.....

I have one better than that Col.....

I had a Hot match for my 'Amelias little Secret'
(the Father of her baby)
