Many thanks for that Jill I'm going to give it a go now.

Have a good evening.

Just read one of my earlier comments on Thomas Mocock (1840) - it only shows your Ancestry details - not your e-mail- so either way would work. I think comments is probably a bit better if you want other people to contact you who are also interested and not just the person who owns the tree.

OK - try this :

Go to Family Trees - type in Mocock as surname - click on the second record down - Deakin (Eliza J Mocock). You get to see a picture of Eliza as well. There's a yellow box at the top - with the picture - and white space underneath. Bottom of the yellow box are three options - photos, historical records and add comments. Click on add comments and you can leave a comment for anyone to see - so it's not just the person who put the tree there but anyone else looking for those records. I've left my e-mail on a few occasions when I've made comments on Mocock info - but I know some would regard that as a bit "dangerous".

I've just had another look at the Ancestry site. Bottom right of the page - there's a community button - conact Ancestry members and that comes up with a whole list of people who have that person (and others with that surname) in their tree - so that's probably a bit safer if you don't want to make your e-mail public. You'd just have to e-mail all the ones who might be relevant.

Hope that helps - sorry if it's a bit long-winded ...

There's a space where you can add comments - I will go and explore - back in a bit.

Jill, call me dense, but how do you leave a message on a public tree when say you've viewed a tree but can't see anything to direct you to contact them, then use the directory and can't find them?

I've left comments on public trees before now - and left my e-mail address for them. That might work.

I know this is a cheeky thing to be asking on a Genes site, but I
realise a lot of you use Ancestry for your research. I've just signed up and via their family tree connections I have spotted two not so distant rellies, but trying to contact them via the conections site is
frustrating to say the least.
They have a a public member tree, tried the directory for family tree name and user name, came up with nothing, can anyone out there help!! PLEASE!!

Ta very much Tracey
