Hi -

My apologies for the delay in coming back but was unexpectedly delayed.

Margaret - Thanks for the lookup.

Re the 1901, unfortunately that is the wrong family.

Jeanette - Again, my thanks

1891 - if the parents were Timothy and Elizabeth Collins then that is likely to be my family - although I was not aware that Eliza/beth had younger siblings if it is the right family.

1901 - on reflection Eliza's parents died in 1893 and 1894 so the family on the 1901 is not likely to be mine if the siblings were living with parents. By implicatiion that also means the 1891; although there is a actually a family connection with Cherry Garden Street connection

Many thanks to both of you for your help.

Warm regards

Rita

If this is your Eliza Collins, they were living in Cherry Garden Street in 1901. On the 1891 census they were also living in Cherry Garden Street when her sisters Mary, Jane and brother William were also still living at home with their parents.

It could be that she had her first child in the Workhouse as she was unmarried. It could also be an error on the 1901 census that her mother was said to be a widow.

There's a 19 yr. old Eliza Collins who's a card box maker. The family is listed as:
Charles H. Collins, head, 63
Mary A., mother, widow, 64
Eliza, dau, 19
(Doesn't make sense to me)
All born Bermondsey.

Hi -

I am looking for the following on the 1901 census.

On the 1901 census online:

Eliza Collins - age 19 (b.Nov.1881)
born Bermondsey London
Admin.Cnty - London
Civil Parish - Bermondsey
Occpn - Card Box Maker

It is just possible that she was residing in St Olaves Union Workhouse. She certainly was in 1903 when she had her first child. She was orphaned at 14.

I know that she had her first child there in 1903 under the name of Elizabeth Collins.

If she is found may I have an image if I pm my email address.

Regards

Rita

PS She was also known as Betsy.
