De-coding Birth Certificates

Rebecca Report 18 Jul 2008 09:47

This may seem like a daft question but having just received 2 birth certificates that I had sent off for I am having trouble deciphering some of the initials.
i.e. On the pink sheet it came with is the section "Checking Point/Reference" Across from this it says:
FF=John
FS=Norman
SWF=Ingram
MF=Mary Ann
MS=Norman

I have just about worked out all of them except SWF....anyone any ideas? I was assuming this was mothers maiden name but on the certificate it says mother was mary norman formerly Wilkinson.......
Also another one with AFN?

Maybe I am being particuarly dense but any help would be very welcome!

AFN = Actual Fathers Name?

Could it maybe be for SWF either surname of wife's father or surname of woman's father? Only a suggestion!!

Couldn't you just phone the place you ordered the certificates from and ask them?

FF=John
FS=Norman
SWF=Ingram
MF=Mary Ann
MS=Norman

How about:

FF = Fathers First or Forenames
FS = Fathers Surname
MF = Mothers First or Forenames
MS = Mothers Surname

SWF = Surname of Wifes Father ?

These are purely guess's..Im new to this..but you never know..

Good Luck!

Keith and Hazel

As it happens I also received two death certificates today from the GRO. :)

One has, as a checking point/reference, AFN=W (No idea what it means)
together with AAD=63 (Age at death that I quoted)

The other has just AAD=58 (Age at death that I quoted)

I did not request an additional checking point for the first one when placing the order.

Hi Chris,
i think it would mean what
Keith in Fujairah said
AFN=actual fathers name
not sure what the W stands for yet lol
Hazelx
p.s. Chris i also did'nt request additional checking
maybe it's something that they now do :))))

The green form that came with a marriage certificate carries AFNM=Thomas. Think this means the groom's father was named Thomas.

Mmm...

AFN = Actual Father's name

'Assumed' Father's name might be nearer the mark :)))

The father would only be that as named by the mother.....And I am sure we have all had experience/heard stories of how that can be a 'little' wide of the mark lol
