Nightowl51 Report 22 Jul 2008 20:01

Hello Everyone
Esp Linda in Herriott Country.
I cannot thank you enough for your advice, and for the last 3 nights trawled through the parish records.
As they are not indexed it was quite difficult at first and when I realised they had put the baptisms marriages and burials of each year following each other I finally cracked it.
I have now found my Thomas marriage to Eleanor, their first child Jane's Baptism the following year and another sibling in 1835.
Still working my way through, still cant find James but I am still trawling.
if you have any one in Durham and Northumberland this is an excellent part of the Lds Site.
Thanks again
Carol

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/

is the site for the LDS record pilot site.
It is free, but you need to register your email address. It says it will then email you and your account will be active, but I have never had that email yet. Just wait a few mins and log in.

From the opening page choose England Dioscese of Durham Bishops transcripts ca 1700-1900.

You will see that these cover Northumberland as well. They are the copies of the original parish registers which the churches sent to the Bishop at the end of every year. They are currently held in Durham Uni and have been photographed there. They should be identical to the parish register you see in the records office, but of course, the person who sat and copied them out at the end of the year could have made the odd mistake

However, the page number isn't correct for the district so you might want to contact the local register office and not the GRO.

Hs anyone out there got the parish records for Alnwick Northumberland for 1800 to 1840 or visitng the Northumberland archives.
I have a James Thompson b 1837 in Alnwick, and there are two born the same year. Both pre compulsory registration ..
I have James marriage certificate to Louisa Bridge in Ashford Kent, which indicates his father was Thomas Thompson a shoemaker or cordwainer.
The only Thomas with a James b in Alnwick has a wife called Eleanor.
Could any one look up his christening and the marriage of Thomas to Eleanor so I could find out his mothers surname. Please.
Thanks in anticipation.
