I have done a family tree and want to share it with my brother who lives away. He is registered on GR but is not a paid up member.

Can I still share my tree with him ?

thanks

Hi Melanie,

From experience, once my membership has expired, I'm not able to view anyone else's tree, just my own.

Hope that helps

No Melanie, dont think you can, he wont be able to view it if he is not a paid member.

You could try emailing him a copy if you have it on Family Tree Maker or another family tree programme.

Thanks

I'm new to this and was wondering about having it on another programme as well.

Which programme is best and how do you get the details off the tree here and onto another programme ??

Hi Melanie

Family Tree Maker is one of the programmes most people use on here, but not the 2008 version, that is a lot different and still has some niggly bits which have to be sorted out. I have 2006 and this can be picked up from some supermarkets, I am sure I have read for under £10. If you put a message to ask they will soon tell you on here.

Once you have got the programme it is easy to upload it from Genes to Family Tree Maker, or if you struggle, someone will talk you through it.

Then you could export it from there as a pdf and email it to your brother. I have done that and sent a copy to a relative myself.

I think I have got it right but I am sure someone will correct me if not.

Or you could download your tree on to tribal pages ( can make it private if you like) then send him your password and he can view it on there.
You can have a tribal pages site for free or upgrade and have a paid for site.
Have a look .
