hi all. thanks for your help and replying to the thread.

most of nins family were known by different names which is why i was wary of going through ancestry etc for 1930 for all babaras in mountfield.

as portland rose says there was other siblings.

connie never married and lived close to Eva for all of her life.Sydney and horace i am not sure about but they were born in the 1890's so i suppose could plausibly be just old enough to have children marrying in 1930, but so far i have not been able to trace anything but their births.

Sidney williams was a witness to eva and sydney gannaways marriage in 1919 so atleast i know he was still alive then.

thanks for your help everyone.

I had a great Aunt who was known all her life as Babs.......her real name was in fact Violet, when I asked my mother why she was called Babs, she had no idea, but she was the youngest of the family and wondered if Babs stemmed from Baby, as in baby of the family,......don`t know if thats any help to you or not.......

If you're sure of the year, the easiest way forward apart from asking more questions of Nin may be to check all marriages of Barbaras in Mountfield in that year.
I believe it's a small place , so there can't be that many.
Maybe the registers are in Lewes Record Office?

yes- i've found that to my cost! especially when generations of them go by the same christian name, or are baptised under one name and then use a completely different one for the rest of their lives.

thanks for your help rose, unfortunately i have to go for tonight but will hoopefully be back on soon.

thanks again.

If you're searching for Williams it can be tough.

i haven't asked as yet. she's coming up for ninety and not all that brilliant on the phone. she lives quite distant from me. me mum is visiting her on the 26th so will get her to ask another few questions then. the info i have is from a few pages she wrote of her memories. a sort of life story- she wrotte it a few years ago and it details the years between 1922 and 1930 when they moved away from london. i found a lot of information as a result of reading it, but nothing else about babs. simply that she was a cousin and nin was her bridesmaid in 1930.

most of nins younger aunts/uncles were born in mountfield in late 90's early 00's. but so far out of the 17 of them i have only found 7 that married. others died young/ remained unmarried. there's just three or four i can't trace now.

i really appreciate your help. :)

Does she remember anything else about Babs?

her father was one of five and only one of hi siblings had a child. even then it was a little boy and he died at the age of 3.

i'm so confused it's really tough trying to untagle 17 siblings! i only found out from nin that she had two more aunts i didn't know of last week. but they were younger ones. born 1905 so they could no way have had children marrying in 1930.

hi all,

i wonder if you can help. My great aunt nin says she was a bridesmaid to her "cousin Babs" in 1930 in Mountfield sussex.

Nins' mother eva was one of the younger sisters out of 17 siblings. The only siblings of Eva's that were married in time to have a child marrying in 1930 are:

Robert G Williams (married Crowhurst 1904 reg district battle)
Jane Williams (married Shoebridge 1909 reg district battle)
Adelaide williams (married Harris/woodard 1905 reg district battle)

only problem is i cannot find "babs" birth under surname williams/shoebridge/harris/woodard. anyone got any ideas how i can locate her/ her marriage please?

Have checked Freebmd hundreds of times!!! any help much appreciated.

Thanks,
Lee.
