How do I go about finding a deceased when the only info I have is on a wedding certificate.
Walter Edward Jones married Mary Elizabeth Knight 1893 1d pg 431
but his father is just down as Thomas Jones deceased. I would appreciate a pointer in the right direction, thanks to anyone who thinks they may be able to help

What is Walter's occupation and does it give his age ?
What was Thomas' occupation
Who were the witnesses and where did the marriage take place ?

Alfonzo Report 21 Jul 2008 21:12

Walter was aged 23 at his wedding in St Saviour in London - he was a potman - the witnesses were William Cooper and Lily (looks like "Flaxpool")
looks like he lived with Mary before getting married as both address is 12 Nailor Road, Peckham
Unfortunatly Thomas Jones no occupation mentioned just deceased.Thank you

If we can find Walter and Mary in 1901 census to get his birthplace, and he was born 1870, we might be able to find him in 1871 census with his parents.

Wonder if this is Walter's birth registration?

Walter Edward Jones
Jun qtr 1869
Camberwell
1d 548

And this could be Mary's?

Mary Elizabeth Knight
Jun qtr 1872
Croydon
2a 209

Only two Walters coming up in 1871 census with a dad called Thomas but not sure about the area (assuming the man above b. Camberwell is him).

Correction - one of the two I found is Walter, son of Paul Jones, but Ancestry has put Paul's dad Thomas down as being Thomas'.

So that leaves . . .
1871 - 4 Union Street, Dunstable, Bedfordshire
Thomas Jones 56 Ag Lab b. Beds Winfield
Sarah Jones 37 Straw Platter b. Wilts Devises
Frederick Jones 16 Ag Lab b. Beds Toddington
Arthur Jones 14 Ag Lab b. Beds Dunstable
Emily Jones 12 Scholar b. Beds Dunstable
Elizabeth Jones 11 Scholar b. Beds Dunstable
Alfred Jones 9 Scholar b. Beds Dunstable
Minnie Jones 6 Scholar b. Beds Dunstable
Amelia Jones 4 Scholar b. Beds Dunstable
Sarah J Jones 3 b. Beds Dunstable
Walter Jones 1 b. Beds Dunstable

Edit - but that Walter is married to Mary H and living in Yorkshire in 1901 so that can't be him.

Now have got a Walter in 1901 living with Mary in Camberwell and he says he's born in Gloucestershire . . .

1901 - Harling Cottages, Camberwell
Walter Jones Head 31 Dog Biscuit Baker b. Stroud Gloucestershire
Mary Jones 27 Wife b. Newington London
Walter Jones 6 Son b. Camberwell London
Rose Jones 10m Daur b. Camberwell London
Caroline Kingsley 55 Aunt (Wid) Charwoman b. Camberwell London

Just checked his marriage on Ancestry - does it say Walter Edward Jones on the certificate as the Ancestry quarter lists a Walter Jones and a Mary Eliza Knight rather than a Walter Edward and a Mary Elizabeth?

Patricia,

Do you actually have Mary's birth cert? I ask because it looks like her mother never married on the census records.

Portland Rose, would you be able to see if
Walter Edward Jones and Mary Eliza Knight who married St Saviour Dec 1893.
Did they have a son Walter Lesley Jones born Dec 1895 in Greenwich 1d 1054?
As I have also found a Walter Leonard Jones born Dec. 1894
but I can't find out if it is Walter Lesley or Walter Leonard I need to go with, as records onlu show Walter L. Jones?
Thank you if you can help.
