John

There are a couple of ways you can do it, to do it properly (as this is your direct line) then paying for a certificate now could well save you some wrong turns (and expense) later.

Option 1

Buy the birth certificate of your grandparent, this will tell you the name of the parents (including maiden name of mother) plus the occupation of the father as well as date and place of birth.

Option 2

Buy the marriage cert as you suggest above.

I have managed to trace my Great Grandfather, and My Great Grandmother. Trouble is, I am struggling to find out My Great Grandmothers maiden name.

I have her as living with my great grand dad in a house, with my grand dad, sisters etc and even the address they lived in. But obviously, my Great Grandmothers name on the census is her married name.

I tried looking up the marriage certificate, but its from 1892 and it only gives that my Great Grand dad was married, and it doesn't give who too (my grand dads one gives who he married) So I take it they never put this on the marriage records before a certain date?

I am considering paying for a marriage certificate??

I hav found out the date she died also, but I am not sure if there is another way to check.
