Well depending where they changed thier name.i assume it would have been near to where they live.. Then a check with local solicitors..if they are still around..might help you to find what your looking for.
Even possible council records. If they lived in a council house they would of had to provide the council with the details of any name change to the tennancy. Hope this helps.
I had to do this when i changed my name.

Good Luck
:)

You cam change your name and call yourself absolutely any name you want, as long as its not to defraud. People long ago sometimes just assumed a name, and in more recent times, some went to a Solicitor to change their name Legally. Nowadays you can change your name by Deed Poll, but there is no law that you have to register it at any central place. I would think a paper trail from 1920 would be very unlikely.

Hi,

Does anybody know how someone would have gone about changing their surname in the 1920s? Would there be a paper trail somewhere?

Thanks
