Alice,

Thanks for trying. Thought the entry a bit strange when it said age 888.

Back to the drawing board then.

Annoying but Findmypast has this 1861

WALSH, James 888 M Nantwich Cheshire
Yes it does say age 888

No credits left on Findmypast to view it and not found anything to match yet on Ancestry

Knowing my luck will probably be a red herring !!!

Looks like a good thing, born in Chester and perhaps staying with family.

Perhaps she is with the same family in 1871 which would explain why she is not with her father.

Danny,

I had spotted the marriage of Mary Ann but wanted to check what birth place she gave on 1881 census

Mary Ann was born c1860 and was born in Chester.
By the 1881 census she was married to William Hodson in Chester.

When and where was Mary Ann born?

Do you have her on 1881 census?

Daniel

Daniel Report 26 Jul 2008 21:53

Aye that does look like a possible family, only if the wife died soon after and James was on his own in the next census, where are the kids?

Hello all

I have James Welsh born c1824 in Chester Cheshire on the 1871 census, occupation Bricklayer and down as a widow.

Class: RG10; Piece: 3721; Folio: 54; Page: 17

Now he looks to have died in 1877, but the thing is i cant find him on any census before 1871.

My other problem is that my 2xG nan Mary Ann Welsh married William Hodson in 1879 and she has her father down as James Welsh Brickmaker.
It dosent say that he is deceased but im not to worried about that as she may not have bothered mentioning that.

But on the 1871 census he is a widow and has no kids living with him.

Any help would be fantastic

Danny
