Hi all, I am new to all this and thought I was doing great, except I have stumbled across an anomaly, which I don't know how to surpass.
My Grandfather was William Mullis, died 1988 I remember this event, and used this information to trace his marriage to - LILLIAN CHURCH, in 1930. good so far?, yes except my mother (Mary Mullis born February 1931) birth record states her mother's maiden name was Poulton, does this mean possible that my mother was adopted, or my grandmother was married before? I can't seem to find my grandmothers birth, only her marriage (ASTON ref 6D 434 ), and am not exactly sure of her age, although I have searched right back to 1900, and all the Lillian Church's have an initial, which is not shown on the marriage entry, or have a different spelling, which leaves me uncertain if I have the correct Lillian (I always thought her name was Mildred, such was respect when you were a child in 'the olden days' - you really didn't need to know your parent/grandparent's christian names!)
Please help if you can.

I think you ought to order that marriage certificate. That will give your grandfather's age - which should match with the info you have/know. It will confirm Lilian's name. It's possible she was married before ...

It will also give her age - that will help track her down.

What about her death? Do you know when that was?

Do you actually have your mother's birth cert or are you just using her birth registration to get her mother's maiden name?

There is another William John Mullis born in Aston. Perhaps you have found his marriage.
