Don't know, but if you ever find it then I'd be interested too as I have a distant rellie also claiming to be born in Brandford MDX (1851) - this changes to Blanford (1861), Bronford (1881), and Bramford (1891 & 1901)!! Can't find any of those places, certainly not in Middlesex anyway!

Oh and by the way, Michael - there is no such word as "censi". The plural of census is "censuses"!

Cheers,
Richard

Many thanks Kath and Michael....I can understand what you both saying. I suspect dialects where pretty "heavy" for want of a better word.

Thanks also Michael for the plural of census lol....I did wonder!

It would seem strange though don't you think to happen on 3 census...?

According to the 1871 census there is a Bedfont or a Brentford in Middlesex. Could it just be that the enumerators misheard one of these names?

Does anyone know of a Brandford in Middlesex please. I have googled...but no help there....not even on google maps.

On 3 out of 5 census it says my 4x gt grandfather was born there... living In Staffordshire...the other 2 say he was born in Staffordshire.

From his service records he was living in Staffordshire at the time of his attestation into the 1st Kings Dragoon Guards in 1823.

Many thanks

Linda
