Hi

I want to look up the DOD of my Great Uncle in order that I can work out when he was born? .

I know where in lived when he passed away and his name from my uncle's marriage cert but can't trace his birth and subsequent marriage.

Can anyone advise how I go about it?

Many thanks Esta

Yes - tried BMD and there is one possible birth of Robert G Hawkins in 1911 but I was hoping to try and locate his death so that I could back track.

It depends when he died.
If it was after 1984, then Ancestry has a fully searchable index.
From 1837 to roughly 1920, Ancestry also has a searchable index, the same index can be found on the free bmd website, though the early events were not always registered and the early deaths do not give a date of birth.
For the years in between, you need to trawl through the original Ancestry images, but as you know the date, this makes it easy.

if you want to add the details, I will look for you, if you don't want to put them on public show, click on my name and send them in a message

His full name was

Robert Gordon Hawkins (known as Gordon)

Place of Death was in Pontnewydd which usually comes under the district of Pontypool

I don't know the date - I mistyped that part of my original message but I believe it to be after 1984.

Many many thanks - he does cross reference with the birth I have - I'll now apply for his birth cert and see if I can track down his marriage.

Thank you once again.

Finding his marriage will be difficult because it means looking through the original images quarter by quarter, which is time consuming if you don't know when he married. Could you narrow it down by the birth of his first child

Birth of his child (my uncle) is 1939-40 (taken from his marriage cert).
