Would somebody be able to give me some tips on where I go next regarding a gr uncle who appears on 1901 census, and then his sisters marriage certificate (as a witness) in 1914. Not sure how to go about searching war records and no luck with marriages or deaths!
Would appreciate any help, please, as inexperience is hindering me!
Thanks

Thanks - George Howell Coad Manning (yes you would think it should be easy!!), b.1882, Tamworth, Staffs. I will have a look at site recommended, so keep fingers crossed. Your help and guidance is much appreciated thank you.

Try the Commonwealth Graves Commission - www.cwgc.gov.uk - I found lots of uncles etc on there, died during in WW1 or WW2 and am now on a mission to get their records amended with the truth! Found four great uncles with the wrong place of origin, three others with no parents listed, and two with no wife listed. Also one great uncle I never knew existed (found by chance) who married three months before he died and his wife gave birth to their daughter that he probably never knew was even on the way.

Thanks Margaret, I will try the Commonwealth Graves commission.
Thanks Steve - it's post 1901 information that I'm struggling with, but it's good to have some of my information confirmed.
