Reading the fine work and help given by members of genesR has always put a smile on my dial. For all sorts of reasons help is required and it is wonderful to see enthusiasm when it counts.

We all have those elusive ancestors who like hiding so well within the census takings that one can be tearing hair out after hours and hours trawling through what seems to be a million angles and ultimate dead ends ~ sigh.

My puzzle is finding the following family within the ‘1861’ census – I have successfully found them in all takings except this one. I am hoping someone may be able to weed them out.

Henry Walker b:1829 in Lanarkshire Glasgow Scotland he was an Iron Dresser he married Barbara Campbell b:1829 in Campbeltown Argyllshire Scotland – they married 12th October 1851 in Glasgow Lanarkshire Scotland.
There children up till 1861 are as follows ->
1: Henry Walker b:1854 in Barony Lanarkshire Scotland.
2: Colin Campbell Walker b:1855 in Milton Lanarkshire Scotland.
3: Duncan Campbell Walker b:1858 in Barony Lanarkshire Scotland.
4: Isabella Walker b:1860 Milton Lanarkshire Scotland.
[Note: All of the above children are present and accounted for in the 1871 census taking].

But where are they in 1861? HELP!

Cheers & Thanks in Advance: Steve Campbell :-)

Update: How strange - within an hour of adding this post I found the following - Surname is wrong - Henry is as Iron Dresser - Barbara's place of birth is wrong - I do know Henry's mothers maiden name was Douglas - all children are Lanarkshire Glasgow born. Also several of there children between 1861 & 1871 where born in Ardrossan Ayrshire. It goes to show how laterally one needs to go - fancy there surname being written as Henry's mothers maiden name ~ egad [they obviously wrote Henry Douglas Walker and missed the Walker part when transcribing] ;-)
