TIME OF BIRTH ON BIRTH CERTIFICATE

Hi
I do hope someone can shed some light on this for me, but I heard a number of years ago that in England the Registrar will only add a time of birth to a birth certificate of a twin. I didn't really take much notice of this until I retrieved a copy of my birth certificate and it had a time of birth on it. Now I was born in Scotland and wasn't sure if the same rule applies there or if it is standard practice to put times on?

I would be very grateful if anyone can help me with this infomation.

well some registrar's went beyond their remit and recorded just every bit of info they could glean.so whilst time of birth on births in England & wales usually meant was a twin birth this wasnt always the case!!
You would only know by looking at the GRO records that two births same surname and GRO ref may indicate twins.
I have no experience tho of Scottish records

All the Scottish births that I have all have the time of birth recorded.

Hi Becs
Yes they do put the time of birth on all the Scottish certificates also on the death certificates - don't know about the English ones .

Usual practice on Scottish certs for time of birth to be recorded.

In England it might indicate twins it might not, as posted above if there is another birth with the surnamedistrict etc on the same page (or the previous/next page) it may indicate twins.

No time of birth on my NZ birth cert, if I remember rightly, but I not only have a twin, but I have multiples. There have been innumerable people who have mistaken me for somebody else. One man tickled me in the ribs (from behind me) and when I swung round to see who it was he was most embarassed. He could not stop apologising, even though I told him I was forever being mistaken for somebody else. I even told him that he had made my evening as it is not every evening a strange man tickles me in the ribs. But he still kept apologising. His face was a picture.
