Family Crest / Coat of Arms

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the difference between a family crest and a coat of arms is please? And entitlement to bear the crest / arms etc.

Only the person awarded the honour is entitled to use the coat of arms - not just anyone who actually happens tohave the same name. Dont get sucked in by these sites who offer coats of arms to every one no matter what name they have.

I think the point being that the arms passed down the mail lineage and if you are an entitled relative you would know :) You can get all these coats of arms and stuff from some of the websites on the net for a few quid but it doesnt mean anything - if you want to do it for fun ................
