Hiya Portland Rose,

I never thought of this - it doesn't look likely that I will ever find him. I am going to try and phone up the MOD again, and see if they will take pity on me and give me a year of birth to look for, or even an area.

Thanks for the above info.

Here's some food for thought. Perhaps he wasn't born a Blair:

Marriages Sep 1915
Blair Andrew D Harvey Aston 6d 1451
Harvey Lillian P E Blair Aston 6d 1451

Angela,

You have him in your tree as being born 1909 in Stirlingshire. Where did you get this from?

Hi,

Thanks to everyones ideas. Unfortunately, he returned from WW2 in 1946, and lived with my grandmother for 2 years, then then seperated. No-one has heard of him since.

I only have his marriage certificate stating his age as 27 in Jult 1938. He states his father as aAndrew Blair, Carpet Salesman.

But thats it.

Have you got your grandmother's death cert? She would be described as widow of ..... if he died before her.

FreeBMD is only England and Wales.

What makes you think it was Scotland?

What's the mothers surname?

Was he born in Scotland?

Have you tried looking on FREEBMD?

No - Sorry

I have had The scottish BMD office search between 1909-1913, but they found nothing.

Do you know where he was born ?

I am trying - in vain I might add to find my grandfather.

William Blair.

I thought I'd found a way of finding him, by obtaining his WW" records. But they want proof that hie has died.

I don't even know his DOB, so how do I find this?

I have his approx. age of 27 from his marriage certificate, he married in 1938 and his fathers name as Andrew Blair, but nothing else.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks Angi x
