sarah was wife to thomas her children were sarah 1821 ann 1819 john 1827 which you gave and my ancestor james ,can find him in census but find birth of him or father, trying to search parish records

went down to leek, got james marriage cert ,it states his father was thomas a bricklayer .
I think mothers name sarah born about 1793

This is from familysearch.org (free). Its a bit early but the father is Thomas.

So its down to the marriage cert - luckily mum in law is with them in 1861 so we can be sure of the following marriage: Use this ref and buy the cert for £7 from GRO online.

Did he marry? If so you could look for the marriage, buy the cert for £7 and you would then have his fathers name and occupation to help you. Plus his residence and the names of the witnesses.

Do you know who he married? Where and when were the kids born?

Pre 1837 you need Parish Records.

You can try the IGI website www.familysearch.org


Beware submitted records as they may not be correct, extracted records are more reliable but as all records are transcribed you really need to confirm the entry by consulting the documents.


Not all records are online, other sites might have some records transcribed, try googling for parish records..

Also consider the local Family History Society and ebay, you might find a retailer with parish records available on cd but again not everything is available outside the records office.

hi all i just want to know if i can find birth of james on internet. He was born in leek .I have looked up bmd staffs but it only start 1837
