Hi

Thankyou everybody for your advice.

I'm more inclined to think that its Henry's and not Harry, so I will send for Henry's Certificate and keep my fingers crossed its not a waste of money.

Keith:
Didn't know you could stipulate the fathers name, will do that .
Thanks

Thank you all again

HI Cheryl

It looks as though the Freebmd listing is incorrect! I've just looked at the complete index for you and there is: Harry Foden 1909 Q1 W. Derby (which is not Derbyshire but Lancs) ref: 8b 383

and Henry Foden 1909 Q1 Nottingham ref: 7b 463 - so this is the one you want.

there are two listings on Ancestry so two different births
Mar qtr 1909
Harry Foden West Derby 8b 383

and Mar qtr 1909
Henry Foden Nottingham 7b 465

so if all the siblings were born Nottingham then would say Henry is your man

Harry is often used for Henry. Prince Harry is actually Henry and when his name was annouced it was stated he was Henry but to be known as Harry!!

The Freebmd info requires a correction to be added

Hi

I have spent months looking for my Dad's older brother's birth, made extremely difficult by the fact that my father hadn't spoken to his brother for years. So he was little or no help at all.

His name was either Henry Foden and they called in Harry, or his birth name was Harry Foden!!!!!

Sadly my Dad is no longer with us,so I've no one to ask.

Have managed to find a birth listed on Freebmd as Harry Foden born Mar 1909 Vol 7b Page 465 Nottingham, but it also lists a Henry Foden with the same ref No's.

So I went to look at the listing for myself and when I viewed it, both are listed,Henry as ref above, but Harry is listed as born Derbyshire.

So do you think its a case that Harry has been transcribed incorrectly listed as born Nottingham when it should have read Derbyshire.
I know that my Dad and all his siblings were born in Nottingham, so if Harry was born in Derbyshire that would then make Henry his brother.

Also my Grandfather's name was Henry Foden and my father was William Henry Foden.

Was going to send for Harry's certificate but now I don't whether to send for Harry's or Henry's.

Hope all the above makes sense!!!!

Advice please???
