Heather, I have brought quite a few but on my other side of my family and i have to keep in my budget these days - as i tend to get out of control some times Patx

Im surprised you have managed to research for 2 years without buying a certificate?

They cost £7 using the GRO reference (as given above) - only every buy them from:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

You can find birth, marriage and death refs up to the early 20th century from freebmd

I really think the only way is get certs to stay on the right tree

Have you got the marriage cert of 1915?

That would give you a guide as to his age and (hopefully) name of his fahter.

Somewhere he will appear in the 1901 census but without a rough idea of when he was born it's hard to pick him out from the possibles.

well his marriage cert will give his age and his dads name & occupation .that would be the best place to start

I have been researching my tree for a couple of years now and going great on one side of my family but other i am struck and its all becase I cannot find anything out about my Grandfather on my fathers side. His name I Frederick Day and was married to Elizabeth Round they married in 1915 that is fact and i know that he was still alive in 1955, as he is on my mums wedding photos but how can i find out more - his birth and subsequently more , any suggesting would be appreciated thanks Pat
