Oh yes, definitely a different one, Sandra.

Hi Margaret,

I presume it is a different Jane Abbott?

Curiously, Sandra, I have a Jane Abbott in my tree who gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, my gt grandmother. Like you, I will probably never find the father. Leaves quite a hole in the family tree!

Hi Margaret, thanks for going to the trouble of findng the information. However, I had already found the igi entry. I have been really lucky there is alot of information for Swillington - I even managed to find Jane Abbotts illegitimate son James last night. Unfortunately I don't know who his father was - I probably never will!!!

Thanks, Sam/Keith. I must confess I had not considered that possibility. It is so obvious when someone else points it out!!

Sandra, see my post, it looks like John Abbot is a Labourer, so quite likely William is a Turner.

Hi Sam, I really do not know what is occupation was. Above is all the information available from the ancestry site. It is possible that this was is occupation, but would his occupation be recorded in this way?

I think it is two baptism entries, one for Mary and one for Jane Abbot. As Sam says, I would think William Umpleby is a Turner by trade (John Abbott, labourer)

Is Turner his occupation?

TURNER: Turner \Turn"er\, n. 1. One who turns; especially, one whose
occupation is to form articles with a lathe.

Hi I have found this entry in the parish records on Ancestry. I am fairly certain it relates to my direct ancestors. However, Jane, Marys mother was marrierd to William Umpleby and her maiden was Abbott. Why would it refer to Jane Turner. Is it likely that she had married previously a Mr Turner or could this be a middle name.
She was married to William at the time of Marys birth. I did wonder if this could be he mothers maiden name but I think this was Dodgeson/Dodgeon. Any thoughts would be really appreciated.
